In the first year of training, each of the 5 modules focuses on one of the 5 character structures.
Character structure is a map of defensive patterns of behavior, thought, muscular holding and emotional expression that an individual develops in response to unmet childhood needs.
These defenses present both psychologically and physically as chronic holding patterns in the body, and are an essential diagnostic tool for Core Energetics Practitioners.

In the second year, Trainees are introduced to body-oriented techniques such as grounding, charge and discharge, body reading and practitioner skills.
They will continue to learn theoretical and embodied knowledge of Mask, Lower Self, Higher self, as they begin to practice working with each other in practitioner/client dyads.
Upon completion of Year 2, students must pass an oral examination in which they demonstrate fulsome knowledge of Years 1&2 material for admission to Year 3.

In the third year of training, Trainees are asked to work with at least one client and offer a minimum of 15 therapy hours.
Trainees who are already mental health professionals trained in other psychotherapeutic modalities, may start introducing Core Energetics principles in their work with clients.
Trainees will need to complete 10 individual supervision sessions with an approved Core Energetics practitioner.

Students must also complete and present a Year 4 Project, and a Client Video Session for feedback and review with their supervisor.
